Car Share has been formed for 2 main reasons:
-
To help the environment and reduce the CO2 emissions, which are released from most cars. For example, a 2004 Land Cruiser traveling just 18,000 KM can emit over 15,000 lbs of CO2 to the environment every year. The impact on this to the environment is dramatic due to the fact that CO2 is one of the leading contributors to global warming. Our aim is to reduce the number of cars on Dubai’s roads and lessen this impact on our environment.
-
To reduce congestion on the roads of Dubai, which currently has a serious impact on the economy. The Road and Transports Authority (RTA) in Dubai estimates suggest that AED 4.6 Billion is lost annually because of traffic congestion and for the next 3 years at least, this figure is highly unlikely to be reduced. In fact, quite the opposite is expected as over 350,000 cars attempt to get their drivers to work during Dubai’s rush hours. The RTA also believe that for every 25 minute journey during the rush hours, 15 additional minutes are lost due to congestion. Although the RTA have taken measures to reduce congestion such as increasing road networks and the proposed Metro system, these will not come into effect until at least 2009. Unlike these measures, effective car sharing can make a difference straight away.
Let’s not also forget the financial savings that Car Sharing offers. Think of what you can save in terms of car registration fees, Road Tolls, Insurance and of course Fuel! In the UK, where Car Sharing is extremely popular, it is estimated that the average Car Sharer save over £2,000 per year! That’s the equivalent to an amazing AED 14,000 per year.
So what are you waiting for? Do the right thing for the environment, your city and of course your pocket!
